~ Burg Gudenau, 29.04.2025 ~

I regretted that the last time I visited Castle Gudenau, I only caught a glimpse of the garden.
During much of the year, it is actually open to the public, so I returned to see it.

The garden is very elegant. An axis runs from the courtyard over the bridge and through a fountain, a pool, a grotto, and finally a trio of statues into the distance The borders of the garden blend into the landscape, and the bright yellow of the rape fields beyond form a nice background.

Statues adorn the lawn, and a few most picturesque trees create asymmetry and frame the view. Turning towards the castle, its different sections and roof shapes form a rhythmic “skyline”.

Unfortunately a gardener was spreading herbicides when I was visiting, and I was not keen on breathing those in, so I was in a hurry to leave.
